Let's turn it BLUE.
The Blaudruckerei Wagner has been dedicated to the special craft of blue printing since 1878 and has been one of our most loyal customers for many decades.
The hop pattern on the placemats encourages you to enjoy a cool beer!
At the same time, the pattern reflects the Mühlviertel's connection to hop growing. The placemat can be used on both sides and is a beautiful addition to the household for people who appreciate and honor the long-standing Upper Austrian tradition.
The white pattern visible on the cloth is created on a blue background using the so-called reserve printing technique. First, our linen is pre-washed and placed on a large work table. Using a stamp pad, a mixture (clay, water and gum arabium) is applied, which prevents the blue color from penetrating where the pattern is to be placed.
The processed fabric is then stretched on the star hoop (circular iron frame) and dipped several times in the vat (lime, water, vegetable indigo and important secret ingredients). As soon as the vat oxidizes in the air, the blue becomes more and more intense, causing the white, ornamental patterns to appear on the fabric.
We are delighted that this fascinating craft has not been lost thanks to the commitment of Maria and Karl Wagner!
These placemats are sewn for you by Christine with a lot of love. The linen was of course woven in our manufactory in Helfenberg. More information about employees and the linen manufactory.
